About

Modus Inoperandi is a growing collection of work by the semi-amateur photographer, Stuart Jones.

About the Photographer

Even before I got my first camera (a slim-line, cassette-loaded compact which used disposable flash cubes) when I was seven, I have remembered being fascinated by photography and photographs.

The ability to capture immense detail, or even a simple mood, from one moment in time and share it with the world is incredible.

I've always tried to make sure that I've had a camera within arms reach as I ventured off hill-walking and rock-climbing, and capture the landscapes, people, and moments that surrounded me.

But, until a couple of years ago, photography was just a hobby - the camera was something that was with me, but taking the photographs was only a secondary activity while I took part in others. Then I upgraded to a digital SLR, and have been learning how to take photographs like the ones which fascinate me while I was a young lad.

So now, I'm moving up to being a semi-amateur.

About the Photographs

Most of the photographs have been uploaded with a minimal amount of digital post-processing - typically correcting the white balance and colour saturation after compression to JPEG from original RAW data. However, I do like playing with some effects in GIMP to enhance the subject of a photograph - and I will describe what I've done to them if I do anything more than the usual post-fix.

Almost all of the images are taking with a digital SLR and should be of high enough quality for at least 10" or 12" high prints. Some of the older images I upload may come from a digital compact, or even scanned 8"x5" prints. These images should be clearly indicated, but should still be good for a 6" print and cards.

I have a bit of a backlog of shoots to work through and select for upload - so I will likely be adding new galleries two or three times a week. Once I'm caught up, I will hopefully be adding new images two or times a month (work and opportunities permitting).
