Information:Loxton was my first stop on my driving tour out east from Adelaide, and I was pleasantly surprised to find an "historic village" on the banks of the River Murray there. Historic villages are great places to wander around, with lots of old shops and houses, and bits and pieces. The Loxton village may not be as large as Teilam Bend, but it did seem to be in better condition. There was also a museum dedicated to the great flood of 1956 and the efforts to protect houses and people living along the Murray. I suggest checking it out - it's a little bit of a drive out of Adelaide, but you can easily do it in a day. Or you can camp nearby. |
